Headteacher’s Response
It is wonderful to see that so many parents believe that their child is safe and happy at our school. Behaviour is a strength, along with high expectations of our children in terms of their effort and achievements. The vast majority of parents who took part in the survey believe that their child does well at this school.
It is clear from parents’ responses that we need to communicate more clearly about what children are learning. Last academic year, we introduced the Seesaw app to provide a glimpse into the learning and experiences of children throughout the day. We also publish our curriculum for each subject on the school website, along with overviews of what each class is learning during the term/academic year.
Class pages contain information around what days to bring reading books, PE kits, etc and these should be checked regularly. We also introduced class assemblies back into the curriculum last academic year to give parents the opportunity to come and see their child perform and discuss what they have been learning about. We will continue to strive to share as much detail as possible about what your child is learning throughout the year. Please ensure that you are signed up to the website email alerts to receive an email every time the school website is updated
Another area for improvement is in our communication of how we are supporting our children with their personal development. Our last Ofsted inspection (September 2023) rated personal development as good, stating ‘Pupils are proud of their school and value being part of the community. Everyone is welcome at the school, and pupils are supportive of one another. They learn about differences between people and families. Pupils show high levels of tolerance and respect for other people. They benefit from high-quality social and emotional support should they need it.’ We strive to ensure that children are supported in all aspects of their life, e.g. spiritually, morally, socially and academically. Children’s successes and achievements are celebrated weekly in assemblies and children are welcome to bring in any awards, trophies and certificates they receive outside of school.
Throughout the school year, personal, relationships and health education are taught through the Ten:Ten RSE scheme ‘Life to the Full.’ This covers a range of relationships and health education all underpinned by the Christian faith, understanding that our deepest identity is as a child of God – created, chosen and loved by God.
A range of leadership opportunities are provided for our children throughout their school career, including School Councillors, GIFT (Growing in Faith Together) Team, Digital Leaders, Wellbeing Ambassadors, Laudato Si Ambassadors (eco-team) and British Values Ambassadors. We believe that in providing leadership opportunities, we can help children to feel they have a voice in our school community and an important role to play in the world.
Last year, we also increased our offer of after-school activities and a range of clubs now run throughout the year, such as arts and crafts, sports, choir, gardening and many, many more. This year we will also be running ‘Rainbows’ bereavement counselling sessions after school.
Finally, I would like to thank all parents who completed our survey. We strive to improve constantly and this cannot happen without your continued support. Your feedback is vital to our school improvement journey and your opinions are valued by every member of the St. Vincent’s staff.
