At St Vincent’s, we use the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised programme to deliver daily, engaging phonics lessons. Children are taught that letters represent specific sounds and that these sounds can be combined in different ways to form words. Our phonics instruction begins in Reception and follows a structured sequence, allowing children to build on their knowledge as they progress through school. This approach helps pupils confidently decode unfamiliar words when reading or writing. We also model phonics strategies during shared reading and writing activities throughout the curriculum. Additionally, we place a strong emphasis on developing language skills, as oracy is essential for success in all areas of learning. The programme usually ends in Year 2, however, should some of our children require further instruction, the Little Wandle programme is designed to support into KS2.

Our Phonics Subject Leader is Mrs J. Coluccio.

The resources on this page will help you support your child with saying their sounds and writing their letters. There are also some useful videos so you can see how they are taught at school and feel confident about supporting their reading at home.
