New attendance guidelines for schools from September 2024
Increase in fine charges
Fines will increase from £60 to £80 per child, per parent and £160 per child, per parent if not paid within 21 days. If another fine is issued within a three-year rolling period, the fine will be automatically charged at £160 per child, per parent.
Fine thresholds
Fines will be issued after 10 sessions (half days) of unauthorised absence within a ten-week rolling period. The ten-week rolling period can span different terms or academic years.
Please note that fines are payable to the council, not the school. School term dates are published on the website in advance so please be mindful when booking family holidays and trips. Please be mindful that school is unable to authorise term-time holidays under any circumstances.
