Illness in School

Although we do the best we can, there is no comfortable, quiet place for children in school when they are ill. We will contact you and look after your child until you can come and collect them.

The cuts and grazes resulting from boisterous play are dealt with by first Aiders. Accident forms are filled in and a copy given to the child.

If a child suffers a serious accident the parents are contacted immediately. If the parents cannot be contacted a member of staff will take your child to hospital for treatment. Make sure the school has your phone numbers and up to date contact details.

Make sure you inform school of any medical condition/s that your child may have in case a health care plan is needed.

Administration of Medicines

Under guidance from the LA and the teaching unions, please remember that staff are not allowed to administer medicines.

Parents who wish prescribed medicines to be administered must make arrangements to come to school to administer it at the appropriate times. If your child is receiving medicine should they be in school?

Please make sure your child’s teacher and the school is aware of any allergies your child suffers from. If your child suffers from any allergies, requiring special and ongoing treatment, they must be included in the School’s Medical file. You must complete a medical health care plan and return it to school as soon as possible.

Inhalers must be kept in the classroom and your child taught how to administer it.
