At St Vincent de Paul’s, we aim to inspire and fuel children’s curiosity about the past: in our local area; in Britain; and in our world. By teaching a high-quality history curriculum that focuses on a variety of historical skills, we hope to equip our pupils with a sense of where we come from and an understanding of self-identity. Throughout the school, our lessons focus on historical skills such as:
- Chronology
- Acquiring Knowledge and Understanding
- Historical Enquiry
- Historical Interpretation
Rooted in our Catholic values, our history teaching allows our pupils to appreciate not only the events and figures that have shaped God’s world but also how these moments can align with the Gospel message of love, compassion, and justice. In turn, our curriculum allows our pupils to gain confidence in what it means to be a historian and achieve their full potential. The study of history allows children to focus on significant events and people throughout time that have made our world what it is today. “Study the past if you would define the future.” By learning about past battles, events, laws, and important figures, we can inspire our pupils to make a brighter future.
At our school we aim to broaden children’s real-life experiences, both inside and outside school through educational visits, visitors, and discovery.
Our History Subject Leader is Mr M. Babbs.
